Meet Featured Sister Marie-Therese Hernon

Marie-Therese HernonI have to confess, the first time I heard about “tapping” I thought it was kinda woo-woo. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that this practice could be healing. I like to think I’m open to alternative medicine…but this practice seemed strange to me. But I have several friends who swear by the results of tapping! That’s why I’m excited to share Marie-Therese’s story with you and hear from an expert who has experienced the benefits of tapping herself.

Business Name: Tap It Behind You

Marie-Therese’s Story:

When my mother was diagnosed with brain cancer, my siblings and I made it first priority to help my father care for her. I took the train from Connecticut to New York every weekend. It gave me the opportunity to demonstrate my love in a way I never had before.

Our family was lucky. Although my mother was bedridden for much of her illness, she was not in pain. However, the prospect of losing her did take a toll. During the day, I did what I had to do, whether it meant tending to her needs or taking care of my children. But at night, I did not sleep.

After my mother died, my father and sister announced I needed to see a doctor. I “looked like death,” my sister said, and I should “get a prescription.” I knew I had to re-establish a regular sleeping pattern, but I was loath to try Ambien or any other pharmaceutical remedy, having heard horror stories of people eating refrigerators bare in their sleep.

Many months later, I attended a networking meeting to promote my writing business. I met a woman who practiced EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique (also known as Tapping), a mindfulness technique similar to acupuncture, without needles. She asked if I’d like to try it to help me overcome my fear of public speaking. When we met later that week for a 45-minute session, she suggested we focus on my insomnia. That night, I slept for eight solid hours for the first time in 15 months.

Since then, I’ve had enormous success with EFT. It’s not magic and often takes more than one session to eliminate a problem, but it is highly effective. One lovely thing about it is that it empowers the user.

An EFT practitioner is best described as a “guide dog” who helps her client transcend grief, poor eating habits, resistance to exercise, cravings, smoking, and self-sabotage, among many other things. A good practitioner encourages her clients to take what they’ve learned from her and use it on their own, as mine did.

After several years of success with the technique, I decided I had to share it with the world. I started training through The Tapping Solution Foundation in Newtown, Connecticut and attained EFT practitioner certification in June 2015.

My goal is to help my clients gently dissolve emotional blocks so that they can achieve success, happiness, and peace of mind.
