Verse of the Year: Ephesians 5:15-16

At the International Christian Mompreneur Network, we’re celebrating the New Year by selecting scripture verses to guide us through 2013. This post is part of a series of Guest Posts from readers of the blog and members of the network. We pray they will inspire and encourage you to select a scripture verse to guide you in the new year!

Scripture Verse for 2013:

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)

So many times over the past few years, I have done things in my life and business because someone said to or because it was the latest trend. As a result, I have often felt overwhelmed. Trying to do things because it’s what others wanted me to do or because I was trying to keep up with the trends was always difficult. It was not until I would slow down and stop trying so hard that I began to realize what I should have done in the first place.

This year, as the new year began to draw closer, I began to look for clues about what my theme for the year should be. I also looked for what verse would help me to remain focused in the new year. A couple of weeks ago, I read something about being intentional and thought, “that’s it” that is my theme. After all, it is only when I do things intentionally, because they are what God has led me to do that I succeed.

This led me to these verses, found in Ephesians 5:15-16, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (NIV) I have reflected back over the past few days on the opportunities in life that I have been given. I have taken many of those opportunities for granted. I have resented a few of them. I have felt that some of them did not serve any purpose. Though over time, all opportunities are given to us and placed in our path for a purpose.

I believe that if we all took the time to slow down, be careful, wise and intentional we would better be able to make the most of the opportunities that are given. It is my goal to do that in this new year.

Be intentional – – as a wife.
Be intentional – – as a mom.
Be intentional – – as an entrepreneur.
Be intentional – – as a teacher.
Be intentional – – as a friend.
Be intentional – – as a Christian.
Be intentional – – as the keeper of my home.
Be intentional – – __________________________.

as I continue to fill in the blanks with opportunities I am given.
