Meet Sister of the Month Lisa Hendey

The first time I heard of Lisa Hendey I was in a panic. It was late on Saturday night and I was not at all prepared for the children’s liturgy I was to lead the following morning at church. I was scrambling to figure out how I could make the story of John the Baptist come alive to my group of fidgety preschoolers. A quick Google search introduced me to CatholicMom.com and the ministry of Lisa Hendey. She saved the day with her free resources — and I was instantly hooked on her website. What began as a hobby and passion has blossomed into an international community of moms who share the same faith. And Lisa (humbly) guides this group, inspiring us daily with her blog and the words of her contributing writers.

Meet Sister of the Month Lisa Hendey

Business Name: CatholicMom.com

Business Description: A website for Catholic moms to encourage women in their parenting, their spiritual lives and their family life.

About Lisa:

I am the founder and editor of CatholicMom.com which was founded in late 1999 as a hobby and has blossomed into a worldwide apostolate serving over 180 countries around the world. Along with sharing my own writing, I edit and oversee the publication of 130 bloggers who freely share their talents with our readers. The site features a blog which is updated multiple times per day, religious education activities and lesson plans being used by families and teachers around the world, movie and book reviews, a podcast and regular giveaways. We are an active faith community that welcomes spiritual seekers looking to learn more about Catholicism. I am blessed daily by our writers, our readers and those whose work we feature on the site.

Favorite Quote or Scripture Passage:

Finally, brothers and sisters,
whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious,
if there is any excellence
and if there is anything worthy of praise,
think about these things.
Keep on doing what you have learned and received
and heard and seen in me.
Then the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:8-9

Hobbies, interests, gifts:

My faith and my family are my greatest passions, but I love writing, travel and spending time with friends. I’m a movie buff and always have a book in my hand.

Lisa’s Family:

My husband Greg Hendey is an Emergency Medicine Physician. My son Eric is a 20 year old sophomore at Harvard and my son Adam is a Junior in high school. My parents, five siblings and their spouses are my best friends in life.

Greatest challenge as a mom entrepreneur:

Finding the time each day for the many exciting opportunities on my plate and staying ahead of the learning curve required to stay on the cutting edge of what I do.

Advice for other mom entrepreneurs:

My daddy shared the following quote frequently when we were growing up: “Always err on the side of generosity.” I try to say “yes” as frequently as possible: to the opportunities that come my way, but especially to the opportunities to be of help to others. This often means looking carefully at how to be a good steward of my time and resources, but I find that in helping others to grow and to prosper, I am blessed beyond measure. I have made so many wonderful friends throughout the years I have been in this business, and have enjoyed adventures beyond my wildest dreams. I give all the credit to a loving God and to friends and colleagues who mutually support one another.

Why I love being a part of the Christian Mompreneur Sisterhood:

When we band together, in Christ’s name and for the good of others, we can accomplish amazing things in this world. I learn so much from the “soul sisters” who share my passions.
