Meet Featured Sister Lori Bell

I met Lori Bell during an online training seminar. She was talking with the instructor and there was something in her voice that spoke to my heart and compelled me to reach out to her. I didn’t know anything about her business or her family life – or even her faith. I just felt the connection of one mom to another and I knew I had to talk with her personally. Thank the Lord I listened to his promptings because a beautiful kinship has developed. Lori and I bonded right away through our shared values of faith and family. Before long, we were working together in the Virtual Business Summit, inspiring other moms to Create a Profitable Business While Putting Family First!  Don’t you just love how God brings the right people into your life at just the right time?

Business Name: National Association of Military Moms and Spouses, Inc.

Business Description: NAMMAS.org stands alone as the only network of its kind, exclusively bringing together both moms of service members and military spouses in one fun, inspirational and informative online space. NAMMAS helps members create the life they want, with the military life they get with resources, articles, online and live events.  In addition, NAMMAS connects leading brands to members and the $2.3 trillion military family market, helping to ignite passionate brand enthusiasts and influential relationships that can last a lifetime.  NAMMAS is known as the “support bra” of the military community because “when life gets tough, we hold you up and together!”

About Lori:

When my husband deployed to Afghanistan with only three weeks notice, I was an instant single parent to two toddlers under the age of three. Realizing a need to connect with other like- minded women who could identify with the same stress and excitement of military life, I wanted to create a place for that online. After searching and not finding anything I quickly made a social community and named it something “official” and called it National Association of Military Moms and Spouses. I invited friends and acquaintances to join. The Association started with just 7 members and through online and offline connections has expanded to include thousands of military moms and spouses.

Favorite Scripture: In business it’s easy to succumb to the pressure to perform.  That’s why when I focus on God right in my midst, I think of Zephaniah 3:17 … “The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

Hobbies, interests, gifts: I am a singer at heart and profession! I love to sing and I lead worship at my megachurch in my city. I enjoy reading and going on family date nights to museums, parks and bike rides. I am also a professional speaker and love inspiring audience with the reality of our relational God and helping them see His great love for us.

Lori’s Family:

Kenyon, my active duty Air Force husband

Amira, 6

Kenyon II, 4

Roman, 20 months

Greatest challenge as a mom entrepreneur:

There are many! But my personal challenge has been not trusting that my message, my gifts and my calling were enough.  I spent many years looking from the outside at the “gurus” and wanting to do things like them. I call it “copycat syndrome.” If they said buy a program or product, I did it.  Not once did I trust God to lead me in the way I should go. This led to frustration and distrust of people. I tried what they said, so why didn’t it work for me? So my challenge has been believing not only in the gifts inside me, but also believing that where God gives vision, He also makes provision.  That means He’ll give me the ideas, the creative ways to make them work for me and my family, the resources including the help I need to bring it to pass. It’s trusting that I know His voice, I know I can trust it, and I know I’m never late…I’m always right where I’m supposed to be.

Advice for other mom entrepreneurs:

Regarding the challenge of copycat syndrome, and what we get into deeply at Prosper Where You’re Planted Boost Camp… just rest! Your guidance never comes in moments of frustration, stress, chaos or disorganization.  It’s when you finally get to the end of yourself, when you realize you cannot hold this up anymore…”this” meaning your business, your family, your responsibilities…by yourself, you’re are at the point of surrender and rest. But it doesn’t have to get that bad (like mine did)! You can trust God right now. He loves you. Knowing that love, receiving that love, changes EVERYTHING. Knowing that He rejoices over you WITH SINGING! The God of the Universe sings over you! That’s enough to make you shout! When you know he is in your midst, rejoicing and singing, OVER YOU, what’s there to stress about? If my Daddy is singing, I’m singing too. I don’t have to stress out over why they didn’t call. Why didn’t they pick me? Why didn’t this work? I’ve learned that God’s Holy Spirit is my first counselor.  He knows what’s best. I hear His voice, I follow and I know it’s ok. He’s taking care of me and everything concerning me. He does the same with you.

Why I love being part of the Christian Mompreneur Sisterhood:

What a very unique audience! Here is where I can say things from the lifestyle I actually live. I can talk about things among my Christian sisters that others might not get. I know that Jesus is my center and I share Him with sisters who “get it.” It is empowering to be with people who can build you up, pray for you and yet still deliver high quality business advice.  We’re not living in a “church” singing hymns. We are the church! We’re shining light in dark places. We’re marketplace ministry. And we’re being taught how to build thriving businesses, on a sure and strong foundation that will produce fruit that will last.  Isn’t that what we want really? To have something that will be a lasting legacy after we’re gone.  That’s the way Jesus did it. And I’m so glad there is a real Sisterhood of women who are doing it that way too.
